During the beginning of one of my pregnancies I suffered from debilitating nausea.
I had minimal to no appetite and eating was a chore. At the time, I was enrolled in university studies and I became pretty good friends with one of my study buddies.
She noticed that I wasn’t eating and finally dragged it out of me that I was pregnant (I wasn’t really telling people yet). She had some orange slices with her and offered me one, and said “My mom often tells the story of how she could only eat oranges in the beginning while pregnant with me. Do you want to try?” I was pretty desperate, the feeling of being starving and nauseated at the same time is very confusing, so I tried an orange slice. I loved it. I ended up eating almost all of them and I was so grateful that I had been able to eat something.
After that day she brought orange slices to school every day and shared them with me, until the worst of my nausea passed. I hope to one day be able to return the favor.
