I am a strong believer that Kindness Begins with Me.

This is something I wanted my children to understand and learn to implement in their own lives. And Honestly it is often the little things that are big to another that you might not ever see or understand.

I had the opportunity to go this last week with a group of youth from my church to the mall. We decided as a group to get flowers and just randomly pick someone to give them to. As we did this, it seemed a little harder to reach out to a total stranger than I thought (typically I can talk to most anyone). So that being said it was so special to see the reactions of those we shared flowers with.

We had someone in a food court line and I just went over to wish her a good day and gave her a flower. She was touched and went to give me a hug. She hesitated a quick second, realizing what she’d done, and I just said, “I’ll give you a hug.” Then I realized this lady was pregnant. So we just talked there for a minute. I loved it!

We had another flower Given to an older person in the store, and she also gave a hug to the giver of the flower. She then later told us again when she saw us in the store that has made her day. She was truly Grateful.

One of the young women even found a guy and gave him a flower. You should have seen his smile. I saw an opportunity to give to a grandma. (Ok, I’m a grandma too so I thought this was fun). Her granddaughter was right there with her. Maybe about 3 years old and I asked her granddaughter if she wanted to give her grandma a flower. Totally made them both happy. I was able to be a part of and witness others be a part of something that made so many smile. The Givers, the Receivers and even some of the Witness.

I love this quote: The Best and Most Beautiful Things in the World cannot be seen or even touched – – they must be Felt with the Heart. -Helen Keller
